ANNUAL LEAVE

(VACATION)

 

 

All employees of the Bossier Parish School Board employed on a full-time twelve (12) month fiscal year basis shall be eligible to receive annual leave.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL

 

Eligible administrative personnel shall be entitled to twenty (20) days of annual leave.  Upon employment as a full-time 12-month employee, annual leave shall begin to accrue beginning with the first month of employment at the rate of two (2) days per month for the remainder of the fiscal year up to the maximum of twenty (20) days.  Subsequent fiscal years will follow the same method of accrued annual leave beginning with the 2021-2022 school year.

 

SUPPORT PERSONNEL

 

Eligible secretarial, janitorial, maintenance, and transportation employees shall be entitled to ten (10) days of annual leave.  These employees will accrue one (1) day per month up to ten (10) as the fiscal year progresses.  Eligible employees with ten (10) years or more consecutive service with the Bossier Parish School Board shall begin to accrue at the rate of two (2) days per month for the remainder of the fiscal year up to the maximum of fifteen (15) days of annual leave on July 1 of their tenth anniversary year of consecutive employment.

 

Custodial personnel are encouraged to take their annual leave during the summer months.  Time of such leave shall be approved by the building administrator or the Superintendent.

 

ACCUMULATION OF ANNUAL LEAVE

 

Eligible employees shall be allowed to accrue annual leave up to a maximum of forty-five (45) days.

 

APPLICATION FOR ANNUAL LEAVE

 

All annual leave must be requested in writing on the approved Application for Leave form.  The Application for Leave must be submitted to the Superintendent or his/her designee well in advance of the anticipated beginning date of leave (whenever possible).  Employees should work with the appropriate supervisor in arranging for annual leave.  Administrative personnel shall take into consideration the services to be rendered by the employee when arranging for annual leave and will make every effort to allow the requested annual leave.

 

PAYMENT FOR UNUSED ANNUAL LEAVE

 

Upon retirement, resignation, or termination of employment, the employee will be paid for any unused accumulated annual leave at the employee’s daily rate of pay.  Payment shall be made to the employee or upon his/her death prior to retirement his/her heirs on or before the next regular pay cycle during which the employee was working at the time of separation or no later than fifteen (15) days following the date of separation, whichever occurs first.

 

DEFERRED RETIREMENT OPTION PROGRAM (DROP)

 

Any employee of the Bossier Parish School Board who participates in the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) shall be eligible for and may elect to receive on a one-time basis payment for unused annual leave upon entering DROP on the same basis as any other employee who retires or otherwise leaves employment; otherwise, any accrued annual leave shall be paid only upon final retirement of the employee.
